FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a public park?

No.

MauiWine and its grounds are open to the public for the exclusive use of its tasting room, any other activity on the property must be approved and reserved in advance, all commercial operators must have reservations for their guests prior to arrival.

Please be respectful of winery grounds and comply with all property rules: no outside food or beverage, no animals, no smoking, no bicycles.

There are several public parks nearby: Sun Yat Sen, Keokea, and Rice.

Is there a shorter route to the winery?

There is only one way to reach the winery – Hwy 37. Although numerous maps may show “shortcuts,” these actually no longer exist. Upcountry is so breathtakingly beautiful – it’s really all part of the MauiWine experience.

From Central Maui, take Hana Highway (Route 36) to Haleakala Highway (Route 37). Heading up the mountain, stay on Hwy 37 all the way to the little community of Keokea. Pass Grandma’s Coffee House on the right, and continue on the narrow road 6 miles to Ulupalakua. MauiWine is just past the ranch headquarters and the Ulupalakua Ranch Store.

Coming from the Hana side of the island, we are located on the “back road” from the town of Hana, which takes approximately two hours. Parts of this road (coming from Hana) are unpaved and narrow but be assured, they are completely passable.

Can we ship wine ourselves?

Federal laws prohibit the mailing of wine by individuals.

Only licensed wholesale/distributors or manufacturers can ship alcohol.

You can safely transport wines home with you as checked luggage. Our King’s Cottage tasting room offers airline-approved insulated packaging available in three, six, and twelve bottle boxes.

Are children allowed?

We do allow children at MauiWine, however, being a winery, we strongly encourage guests to ensure that all members of their party are 21+ years in age. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We ask for your respect in acknowledging that this is a winery and not a park. Being a winery, the experience can test the patience of even the most well behaved children. Should you join us with children, we ask that you ensure the winery ambiance and experience for others not be changed.

Are pets allowed on the grounds?

We allow certified service animals only.

Do we need reservations?

Guests are seated at tables and will be served by our hospitality team. Space can be limited at times in our cozy King’s Cottage, but we do offer reservations, which are encouraged, and we welcome walk-in guests. We will always do our best to accommodate all who visit our historic grounds and tasting room. If you know you’ll be joining us, please don't hesitate to plan ahead; reservations can be booked up to 90 days in advance. If you’re in the area or on a scenic drive, like the road to Hana, please stop in! We would love to host you, with or without a reservation. You can shop our tasting room retail boutique without a reservation or being seated as a walk-in.

MauiWine's grounds are not open to the public. Visitors need to be seated guests or shopping the winery boutique to enjoy our historic grounds.

Is there a restaurant?

MauiWine's tasting room offers cheeses, snacks, and bites that are intended to pair with our wines. The Ulupalakua Ranch Store & Grill is located across the road from us. The Grill serves authentic ranch-style burgers and dishes made with beef, elk, lamb, and venison raised on the ranch.

Does MauiWine host wedding ceremonies, receptions, private events, or allow photography sessions?

MauiWine is not available for wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions, or large corporate events. We do accommodate small private events and photography sessions on a case by case basis.

We are a winery which focuses on doing two things well: crafting great wines and providing a warm, hospitable service to smaller groups of guests who are interested in our wines and learning more about our vineyard, winemaking, and history.

We appreciate your understanding that while our grounds are scenic, their purpose is to facilitate the winery's mission.

What is the elevation of the winery?

MauiWine sits at an elevation of approximately 2,000 feet above sea level. However, during your journey to Ulupalakua, the elevation climbs to 3,000 feet in some places. The vineyard is located about a mile away and is between 1750-1900 feet in elevation.
